Title: Planckian metals and quantum criticality in the cuprates
-
Speaker: Prof. Subir Sachdev, Harvard University
Abstract: Many metals with correlated electrons exhibit “Planckian” behavior, with charge transport characterized by a nearly universal scattering rate equal to (absolute temperature)/(Planck’s constant). I will describe an exactly solvable, but not particularly realistic, model of a Planckian metal. Then I will discuss the cuprate superconductors, and present a more realistic model of quantum criticality which could help understand the Planckian behavior.
